Jules Dickens
Red hot dj / producer......
A diverse and very adaptable DJ/Producer with more than 15 years experience in the industry in the UK and overseas, Jules Dickens (aka Abstract Source) has played a vast range of venues worldwide, from lounge bars to warehouses. London venues include: Egg, Jamm, Public Life, Ginglik, Horse & Groom and Dalston Superstore.
An avid vinyl collector since the early nineties, Jules was quick to embrace digital vinyl in its early days and currently uses the IWS system from MAX with Ableton Live which gives him ultimate control over both tracks and effects through the vinyl format. A solid background in Sound Engineering has led to a proficient and unique style on the mixer and being a people person, Jules will always find the right track for the moment and intuitively work the crowd.
A passion for travel and music has taken Jules all over the world. From 2003 to 2008 he relocated to Kuala Lumpur where he set up DJ/Producer courses at SAE (School of Audio Engineering). During this time he also spent a year in Australia completing his degree in Recording Arts.
From a production perspective, Jules covers many bases from Disco to Detroit Techno, pushing the boundaries of Electronic Music while maintaining an old school approach. He combines vintage drum machines, analogue synths and state of the art plug-ins fired through a 5 foot analogue rack, courtesy of production partner Wes Maebe (Sting/Cat Stevens).
Inspired by a genuine enjoyment in helping people to realize their artistic potential, Jules runs a production and tuition service in London. Under the Abstract Source name, he provides a tailor made service whereby students get their songs produced and pick up skills at the same time.
Current projects include a live Deep House outfit with soul singer, Elliot Chapman and Latin Percussionist Hugh Wilkinson from the Lion King show. He is also setting up a brand new label with Colin Dale which will showcase his more upfront, dance floor oriented material. And with forthcoming releases in the US and Asia, it's looking like a good year for Abstract Source.
