Living City
Throughout an industry of endless flux and change, there will always be underground heads, committed and true to an ever evolving organic sound, whose focus is honestly and purely on good quality music. Disregarding trend, hype and the fickle say-so of music industry media ‘afficionados’. Staying true to a vibe, a feeling, and bypassing fashion on the journey to the future of electronic music.
Living city (miles sagnia & toby slade-baker) was born out of a mutual adherence to this ethos. A joining of two musical minds to form a dj partnership / production alias, record label and party. An all encompassing banner under which they approach the music from every angle and ensure that the vibe that has inspired them will continue to inspire. From unreleased material to tried and tested beats from the vault they weave together a warm soundtrack that grooves the body and connects with the soul.
The journey has lasted a decade of dance, with many life changing experiences along the way.
After performing each in their own right, they started throwing dvnc parties in cambridge ’97. Also playing at parties such as good times, more tea vicar and gusto independently, while supporting the free party
scene. Miles won a competition put on by a well know dance magazine leading to plays in ibiza and a uk residency.
He then started working behind the counter in rhythm syndicate records in the city. Toby moved to brighton and, following many successful club nights (kabomba, identifying talent such as serge santiago, evil nine and others long before they achieved international acclaim), started djing for, and subsequently, running the big beat boutique.
The pair played many parties and events over the next few years in the uk whilst gently pressing abroad, touching down in ibiza, france and a mini tour in china honing a vibe and getting recognition to their unique sound and distinctive approach to a club set. It was playing for the boutique that the pair started to put themselves on the map, playing regularly at turnmills-london and the concorde2-brighton, as well as bed-sheffield and the arches-glasgow, alongside djs joey beltram, loco dice, layo & bushwacka + x-press 2 amongst many others.
